White House Will No Longer Take Questions About Trump And Russia

The Post's report says that Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States, told superiors that it was Kushner who broached the subject.

House Democrats said they want Kushner's security clearance revoked "to protect national security".

Last month, CNN reported that the FBI's investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election was increasingly touching on the multiple roles of Kushner on both the Trump campaign and the Trump transition team.

A source close to Kushner told CNN on May 25 that he had not been contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Gergen went on to describe how Kushner's influence in the White House seems to have weakened. "You have to ask, well, who are they hiding the conversation from?" he said on ABC.Kushner initially had come to the attention of FBI investigators a year ago as they began scrutinizing former national security adviser Michael Flynn's connections with Russian officials, the two sources told Reuters. Comey is expected to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation during last year's presidential election.

As reports swirl that Trump is planning a further shakeup of the White House communications team following the resignation of comms director Mike Dubke, the short briefings could be a sign that Spicer is next on the way out.

On Tuesday, Spicer was asked if President Trump believes in climate change. Kushner in March said he was ready to testify about his Russian Federation meetings to the Senate Intelligence Committee. John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) said they were concerned that the real estate developer was using Jared Kushner's White House post to attract foreign investors through the EB-5 visa program. "I would just say that Kushner's attorney has said that Kushner has volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about these meetings, and he will do the same if he's contacted and connected with any other inquiry", White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters.

If this was the first example of questionable contact between Trump's associates and the Russians, or if this was some minor functionary and not the husband of Trump's daughter, Ivanka, the concerns raised so far might not loom so large.

The announcement comes at a time when Comey, whom the president unceremoniously fired not too long ago, is reportedly set to testify to a congressional committee. He also met with the Russian banker Sergey Gorkov, with the greater possibility of a direct link to President Putin.

Why? Because the "Russia stole the election" narrative helps them explain how a political novice like President Trump could beat the seasoned Democratic candidate they'd anointed to carry President Barack Obama's torch, Hillary Clinton. Read the full story here. One element that is of interest to investigators is the different explanations that Gorkov's bank and the those around Kushner gave for the goal of the meeting.
