Tension erupted in a Noida residential society in Sector 78 on Wednesday morning when a mob barged into the premises and vandalised property following allegations of a domestic help being beaten up and held hostage by a family.

The home where the incident of beating up the maid for stealing money allegedly took place belongs to Mitul Sethi who is a captain in merchant navy.

As per a report in Hindustan Times, the mob gathered outside the main gate of the society at 7 am and entered the society while breaching the security.

Abdul said after they were beaten with batons they resorted to pelting stones in self-defence. They also blocked the main Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) road at Barola, halting traffic towards Noida Phase 2 Industrial Area.

Sensing the seriousness of the matter, SP City Arun Kumar Singh had to rush to the spot to take stock of the situation.Adequate police personnel have been deployed at the society and the situation is now said to be under control.

A report in HT says that the police admitted that the maid was found inside the apartment complex in the morning.

"This is Zohra, a 26-year-old who works as a domestic help in Noida".

The maid's husband, Babu Khan, along with the police had gone to Sethi's house that night to inquire about Zora, but they were told that she had left, a police official said. I spoke to her a while back and she confirmed she was locked up in a room the whole day [not in the boot of the auto as my original post said]. Some even entered the premises of the society and started pelting stones. "She kept saying that I had stolen money from her, and threatened me that she will lock me inside the house and will not allow me to leave till the amount is recovered", she said. Noida police, instead of taking action, is now firing at the protesters. On Wednesday morning, a few people went with me to the society and asked where my wife was. The family of three had to lock themselves in the washroom for an hour and were later rescued through a back door by society residents, as reported by TOI.
