At least three militants were killed in an encounter between security forces and the terrorist broke out in Tral in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday.

J-K DGP SP Vaid said that while the exact outfit involved in the gunbattle is not known, the suspicion is on foreign militants, possibly even Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Some people indulged in stone-pelting and tried to march towards the encounter scene to help the militants escape but were chased away by the security forces, the official said, adding there was no report of any casualty among the civilians.

The encounter is presently going on and the bodies of the terrorists were yet to be recovered, a senior official told media.

One more militant is believed to be holed up inside a cave on a hillock.

As per sources, the terrorists were planning major strikes on state highways.

The operation was underway at the time of publication, the KMS reported. The encounter comes few days after the terrorist attack on a bus carrying the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims that killed seven in Anantnag.

On Friday, a terrorist was arrested in the Sambal area of Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district.

He was apprehended during an ambush laid by Special Operations Group (SoG) of Sumbal and 13 Rastriya Rifles regiment of Army at Markundal in Pushwari.
