Wenger wants his last season's top scorer to remain at the Emirates and revealed that he had spoken to Sanchez via text and that the conversation had been positive.

"For now I am at Arsenal and I finish my contract in one more year".

But Sanchez, whose contract expires next summer and who is understood to want to join former boss Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, is not willing to wait another year to return to European football's premier club competition.

The Chile worldwide has been strongly linked with the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich this summer, but the Gunners have been firm that they won't sell.

Reiterating claims he made in the wake of the Confederations Cup, where Chile lost the final to Germany, he added: "I've made my decision, now I wait for Arsenal's reply".

Arsenal missed out on Champions League football for next season after finishing fifth in the Premier League, and the Gunners will play in the Europa League instead.

As recently as Friday night, manager Wenger had revealed he was texting Sanchez through the summer to convince him to stay on at Arsenal.

Arsenal are now on their pre-season tour of Australia and Sanchez is expected to rejoin the squad once they return back to London Colney in just over a week.

Asked whether Oxlade-Chamberlain will stay with the Gunners, Wenger said: "Yes, 100 per cent I expect him to stay". 'There is not a lot to resolve with the player.

These comments would imply that Sanchez is hoping to secure a move before the start of the new season.
