Bomb threat prompts student evacuations at UCLA

Students were evacuated from a recreation center at UCLA amid reports of a bomb threat Wednesday night.

The UCLA Bruin Alert tweeted that evacuations were in progress as of 10:15 p.m.

"This is really precautionary at this point", Haas said. The evacuated students, who were gathered in Drake Stadium, erupted in cheers of relief. Residence halls are occupied by a mix of summer students, visitors attending camps and workshops and faculty members who live in quarters on The Hill.

The phoned-in bomb threat was reported about 10:10 p.m.at UCLA Sunset Recreation Center, according to a UCLA official. Thousands of evacuated students from three dorms are being ushered into Drake Stadium, KTLA reported. Bob Leinweber. The search and emergency operations concluded about 20 minutes later with an all clear.

Police are continuing to investigate.

The UCLA incident isn't the first bomb threat or false alarm of the year.
