BCCI forms four-member committee to finalise assistant coaches

Zaheer Khan Rahul Dravid to be appointed after consultation with Ravi Shastri CoA

Zaheer Khan Rahul Dravid to be appointed after consultation with Ravi Shastri CoA

Speaking to reporters in Kolkata on Friday, Ganguly claimed that Zaheer was contracted to work 150 days a year.

Eduji and BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary are the other members of the committee which will meet on July 19.

While Dravid's role with the Indian team is still unclear, it remains to see how BCCI deal with the terms of Dravid's existing contract as the head coach of India's youth teams. The Committee of Administrators (CoA) had put the contract drafts for the three new appointees - Shastri, Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan - on hold and will discuss the contracts at a meeting here on Saturday.

There was no end to the controversy surrounding India cricket head coach appointment as even after Ravi Shastri was picked by CAC, there was drama surrounding the appointment of support staff. In a meeting attended by CoA members Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, the CoA approved the appointment of Shastri. "The recommendation will be acted upon in consultation with the head coach". So far, no contracts have been given to Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid.

Along with naming Shastri as the head coach, the CAC also put forth names of Dravid and Zaheer in consultant roles, but the degree of their involvement was yet to be known.

It may be recalled that earlier Dravid was chosen as the consultant for batting skills, whereas Khan was chosen for bowling skills. There is going to be a core support staff, which will be fielding, batting and bowling, which has been decided. "After taking the decision on his selection, the CAC consulted him and decided on having Batting and Bowling consultants on overseas tour-to-tour basis, as per the requirement of the team", the BCCI had said in a release.

Shastri has made it clear that he wants Bharat Arun as the bowling coach. All three had been hand-picked by Shastri, when he became the team director in August 2014.

"Dravid will obviously not travel with the team to Sri Lanka as he has to be with the "A" side in South Africa and Zaheer Khan and Ravi Shastri will take charge during the upcoming tour". We have set up a committee and they will speak to them (CAC), communicate with them after talking to Shastri.

The drama over the appointment of Indian coaching support staff is not yet over.
