Wolff called Don Larsen's ideal game in the 1956 World Series, the Colts-Giants NFL championship game (the "greatest game ever played" according to many), multiple NBA Finals, the Rose Bowl, the Gator Bowl, the Sugar Bowl and many others.

Bob Wolff (c.) honored at Madison Square Garden.

The genial Wolff called the Knicks games when they won their National Basketball Association titles in 1969-70 and 1972-73, working alongside analyst Cal Ramsey, and did games for the NHL's New York Rangers as well.

Wolff also gained recognition as the only sportscaster to call play-by-play of championships in all four major North American professional team sports, according to ESPN, including National Football League championship games, MLB World Series, NBA Finals, and NHL Stanley Cup Finals.

Wolff was inducted into the baseball hall of fame in 1995.

He was the recipient of the Curt Gowdy media award from the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008, joining Gowdy as the only two sportscasters to be in both the basketball and the baseball halls.

Most recently, Wolff was a commentator for News 12 Long Island from 1986 through this February.

In 2012, Guinness World Records said he'd had the longest career of any sports broadcaster.

The native New Yorker passed away Saturday. "Beyond his lifetime of professional accomplishments, he was a man of great grace and dignity, serving his country with honor, and proudly calling NY home". He also became the first television play-by-play voice for the lowly Washington Senators, a job he kept through the team's transformation to the Minnesota Twins in 1961.

A 1942 Duke graduate, Wolff's career took him from Durham to Washington, D.C., with an interruption for World War II when he was a U.S. Navy supply officer in the Pacific.

He teamed with Joe Garagiola on NBC Game of the Week baseball telecasts in the 1960s.

Wolff is survived by his wife Jane, sons Rick and Robert, daughter Margy, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
