Who (Mindy Kaling) and Mrs. In other words, it needs to be your new obsession. Even when characters don't have to be white, it's still often the default, so it's nothing short of handsome to see a director as talented as DuVernay (who is also the first African-American woman to command a $100 million film budget) tell a Disney fantasy epic centering around a young girl of color for other young girls to watch.

Written by Oscar victor Jennifer Lee (Frozen), the upcoming Disney movie follows the story of Meg Murry (Reid), "a young girl traumatized by the disappearance of her scientist father years before". How Charles, his sister Meg and friend Calvin find and free his father makes this a very special and exciting mixture of fantasy and science fiction, which all the way through is dominated by the amusing and mysterious trio of guardian angels known as Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who and Mrs Which. Who, played by Kaling, Mrs. Whatsit, played by Witherspoon, and Mrs. Which (Winfrey). Make sense?

The movie brings to life the 1962 novel by Madeleine L'Engel about a troubled young girl who gets transported through different dimensions by way of a paranormal phenomenon. "I saw so much beauty in it, but also so much meaning". DuVernay said of casting Winfrey and her and Mrs.

Earlier this morning we got an up-close-and-personal look at next year's Black Panther, and now we've got a round of new images from Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle In Time, which Disney is putting in theaters next year.

DuVernay plucked 14-year-old Reid from thousands of hopefuls across the country to play teen protagonist Meg, who travels the cosmos with her younger brother, Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe), and unlocks her inner warrior along the way. "My whole process with this film was, what if?" Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. When we see her in Henrietta Lacks, she's not Oprah to me. "What's more, in the ladies themselves, would we be able to simply mirror a more full broadness of gentility?"

So, DuVernay's perspective is refreshing, because from the very start she was considering how this fictional universe that blends both scientific and fantasy elements could actually reflect the real, diverse world in which we live.
