Highs will be a bit cooler, in the lower 80s with dropping humidity. Pasadena, San Gabriel and Burbank will experience highs of around 95 Saturday, Sunday and Monday while Woodland Hills hovers around 102 and Lancaster reaches 106 - about 5 degrees above normal.

After a string of hot and humid days, record heat could hit part of the First State Thursday.

From your brain to your skin pores, this is what goes into your body keeping you cool when the heat turns up. We'll remain just shy of heat advisory criteria, but that can change so we'll keep you posted. A Heat Advisory was in effect for part of the day Wednesday as the Heat Index temperature made it up to 105, making it unsafe to spend a long period of time outdoors. In fact, Washington reported a heat index of 106 degrees at 3 p.m. The heat index will be in the 100s. The city has opened up several cooling centers for city residents who do not have air conditioning.

On Wednesday, Washington tied its warmest low temperature for the date of 77, set in 2011. Don't leave any living thing (kids, pets, etc.) in a vehicle for even a minute, as interior temperatures will soar to 140 degrees during the heat of the day.

"The heat indices will be most likely above 100 (degrees) and in some cases in the southern counties, like around Fayetteville, it could be around 107", said Ryan Ellis, a meteorologist in the National Weather Service's Raleigh forecast office.

A weak cold front will interact with monsoon moisture to bring a chance of mainly dry thunderstorms, mainly this weekend.
