The funeral home could pay up to $10,000 for each occupational code violation, in addition to continued suspension and revocation of both licenses.

Swanson Funeral Home in Flint, Mich., has been shut down after being fined and cited several times over the course of more than 10 years.

The Michigan Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), released information that the mortuary science establishment license of Swanson Funeral Home, Inc.in Flint, Michigan, and the individual mortuary science license of its manager O'Neil D. Swanson, II, have been suspended. Investigators say deplorable conditions were found inside.

Maggots were found on the floor of the facility's garage and garage door. Fox 17 Online reports that after police officials received several complaints about Swanson Funeral Home, they began an investigation. The Flint funeral home has no relation to the Marquette funeral home with a similar name.

Spokespersons for two other Swanson Funeral Home locations, in Detroit and Pontiac, stressed that their facilities have absolutely no connection to the Flint location.

They offered to pick up his mother-in-law's body and immediately prepare her for a visitation with immediate family in just hours.

Swartz Funeral Home in Genesee County's Mundy Township responded to help.

The Swanson Funeral Home located in Flint, Michigan, was hit with a number of health code violations after maggots and unrefrigerated bodies were found.

"Michigan residents trust funeral home directors, owners, and their establishments to follow the law especially when dealing with the death of a loved one", said CSCL Director Julia Dale.
