Muguruza storms into Wimbledon final

Garbiñe Muguruza powered into her second Wimbledon final and her third Slam final in three years after blasting past Magdalena Rybarikova. "She dictated the match from the very first ball till the very last one".

Rybarikova was playing in the semifinals at a major tournament for the first time in her career.

She managed to reach her best result in a major at her 36th main draw appearance.

Williams' semifinal was more competitive, at least at the outset.

Indeed, the slick surface lends itself to Williams' power-based game, making her terrific serve that much tougher to handle and giving her groundstrokes extra sting. It will be a contrasting clash.

Williams has won 12 consecutive service games entering Saturday's final, which will be her ninth at Wimbledon in singles and first since 2009. "Maybe the score did look maybe more easier than actually playing during the games". The opening shots in the rallies should be the most relevant factor to determine the victory.

Rybarikova won just 10 points on serve in the entire set as Muguruza attacked off the return and was confident enough to dominate from the net.

Striking with menacing ambition, Muguruza roared through 10 of the first 11 games demolishing Rybarikova, 6-1, 6-1, charging into her second Wimbledon final in the last three years.

Williams wouldn't face another break point and, later, produced another impressive second serve - in the second set, at 103 miles per hour (166 kph), it went right at Konta, who jumped out of the way.

It was some achievement to keep ploughing through the rounds, reaching her first semi-final of a slam at the 36th attempt, and at the age of 28, especially considering wrist and knee problems had seen her slide to 453rd in the world in March.

In her victories over Karolina Pliskova and Coco Vandeweghe earlier this week, Rybarikova had displayed a devil-may-care attitude, staying positive and hitting her way out of trouble, as if comforted by the knowledge that with her lowly ranking (87 in the WTA), she had nothing to lose.

Victory against Serena at Roland Garros a year ago suggested she was a player heading for the top, although expectations have been tempered by a mixed bag of results since, notably with pre-Wimbledon defeats to Ashleigh Barty in Birmingham and Barbora Strycova in Eastbourne. Konta went from 0-40 to 30-40 on serve but was broken on the third break point.

"Serena did play her in a final", she said. They will face the No.1 ranked couple in the Doubles Race, Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, formerly the tallest world number 1 in history.

The 23-year-old is being coached by Conchita Martinez, who became the only Spanish woman to win Wimbledon in 1994, and the lessons appear to have done the trick.

"She was just, quite frankly, better than me today".

Lansere - Osuigwe This is the most interesting girls singles' quarterfinal.

Not only that, but Federer (35 years, 342 days) has the chance to be the oldest man in the Open era to win a Wimbledon title.

The 37-year-old showed fitness and energy beyond her years, breaking Konta once again to gain a vital advantage.
