New Orleans Pelicans sign Rajon Rondo

Chicago Bulls guard Rajon Rondo during the second quarter of a first-round NBA playoff basketball game in Boston Tuesday

New Orleans doesn't even have to look past his 2016-17 campaign for optimism considering Rondo shined in two playoff games for the Bulls, tallying 11.5 points, 10.0 assists and 8.5 rebounds a night as the No. 8 seed took a 2-0 advantage over the No. 1-seeded Celtics.

Rondo is obviously at the tail end of his career, which is why it makes sense that this would be a one-year rental.

According to ESPN sources, the Pelicans' contingent included general manager Dell Demps and coach Alvin Gentry.

That Rondo potentially has several suitors is somewhat remarkable considering he played his way out of the Chicago Bulls rotation for a part of this season - his lone year in Chicago.

The New Orleans Pelicans aren't done building their backcourt. He played his first nine seasons in Boston, being selected to the All-Star team twice before he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2014.

Rondo, a free agent, has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the Pelicans.

After helping the Bulls get off to a solid start in November, Rondo struggled to find his form alongside ball-dominant players like Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler.

Rondo is entering his 13th National Basketball Association season after being drafted No. xx overall by the Celtics in xxxx. In 72 games for the Kings, Rondo averaged 11.9 points and a league-leading 11.7 assists.

He also has played 96 playoff games, won a championship with the Celtics in 2007-08 and can provide leadership.
