More media than news as rescuers continue the search for two people aboard a lost plane near Marineland this morning

The plane crashed late Thursday night and deputies and search crews spent hours looking for the plane. You always hope you can find people alive.

At an afternoon news conference, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said he had been to the wreck site and it appears that the aircraft clipped a tree and flipped over.

The plane originated at a flight school called "Sunrise Aviation" in Ormond Beach.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it lost contact with the plane around 11:15 p.m. when it was some 22 miles (35 kilometers) north of Ormond Beach. "There are parts of this aircraft that were actually found closer to the shoreline".

Chief Mark Strobridge with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said that preliminary reports indicated two people may have been onboard the aircraft, but they are working to confirm that number. But the National Transportation Safety Board has confirmed it will take over the crash investigation. The plane was en route from Brunswick, Ga., to Ormond Beach, Fla., according to Action News Jax. "It is clear one person is deceased inside the aircraft", Staly said.

A search was launched after witnesses reported seeing a plane crash in the area, the FAA said.

Rescuers found some debris the morning of June 14 that they believed came from the missing plane.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, St. Johns County Fire Rescue, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are assisting with the rescue efforts.
