'Reviewing Jadhav's mother visa application,' says Pakistan's foreign office

India's belligerence poses threat to regional peace and security FO

Islamabad said on Thursday it is reviewing New Delhi's request for granting a visa to the mother of Kulbushan Yadav, the former Indian Navy officer sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court for alleged involvement in espionage.

Earlier in the day, there were reports in Pakistan media, that the government was considering giving visa to Kulbhushan Jadhav's mother India's request.

Pakistan's foreign affairs spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, during the weekly Foreign Office briefing, said that asking for recommendations from Aziz to grant visas was against "diplomatic norms".

Jadhav, a Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) operative, was arrested on March 3 past year during a counter-intelligence operation from the Mashkel area of Balochistan.

Jadhav, 46, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military tribunal in April on charges of espionage and terrorism. Jadhav is on death row in Pakistan even as India and Pakistan continued to fight a legal battle at the International Court of Justice. However, at that time Sartaj Aziz did not even have the courtesy to acknowledge it, Swaraj had said.

India had requested Pakistan to allow Avantika Jadhav to meet her son.

"In terms of Consular access to Jadhav, I think there is no progress on that and also for the visas for the family, including the mother, I think there is no change in the position".

He said Pakistani forces give befitting response to the Indian aggression but they are demonstrating utmost restraint as Pakistan has no desire to escalate the tension.

Pakistan responded days after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj expressed dismay over lack of courtesy shown by her Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz. India took the case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) asking for a stay on that execution, anchoring its arguments on the fact that Pakistan violated the Vienna Convention. India has, however, claimed he was abducted from Iran.
