Pregnant Serena Williams showing off her blossoming baby bump

As she prepares for motherhood, tennis star Serena Williams has turned to a baby book written by one of her friends for advice. In an interview with CEO Maverick Carter on the UNINTERRUPTED series "Kneading Dough", Williams explained she never played for money or even thought about the monetary rewards that would come with her success.

When she got her first paycheck for $1 million, she didn't take a photo for a keepsake or immediately start to spend it but instead simply took it to the bank to deposit it and then move on. Not once did I think about a check.

"I've never had this time off before, or if I have I've been injured and it's really different to be injured as opposed to be expecting", she said.

"Since I was a teenager I've made every financial decision in my life, and I've had to learn how to make good ones and how to make bad ones, and it helps you make better ones", she said.

Williams plans to return full-time to her professional tennis career after giving birth but said only "we'll see" when asked if she has a specific time frame in mind.

Carter asked Williams about how she collected her winnings, and Williams said she picked up a check at the end of the year long before money was wired directly to accounts. "And like I said, just getting as much sleep in now as I can because I understand when the baby comes you won't sleep as much". Because, you know, it was a million dollars and all.
