The Sagas of Icelanders Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson chase Everton's pursuit of the Swansea City playmaker is threatening to become one for the ages

According to BBC Sport, the Toffees have made a bid of £40 million for the Iceland global midfielder, but it has been rejected as the Swans want £50m for him.

Swansea slapped a £50million price tag on him, with the Welsh club having rejected a £40m bid from 2015-16 champions Leicester.

Gylfi played for Swansea at Barnet in a 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat.

We had it with Jack Cork; there was no thought over the summer to let Jack go, but a good offer comes in and what else we might do in midfield it becomes a business decision.

Speaking in a statement released to WalesOnline, the club's American owners, Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan, expressed disappointment with Sigurdsson's decision not to travel to the United States and maintained that they would not be pressured into selling their star man for a cheaper fee.

"We will not be bullied or forced into a decision until a club meets our valuation of the player, no matter whether they believe they have an agreement with the player".

It looks like matters have come to a head now between Swansea City and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Kaplan and Levien called for Sigurdsson, who joined Swansea from Tottenham for #6.8million in July 2014 and has since scored 30 goals in 112 appearances, to reconsider that decision. Any such agreement would obviously be in contravention of Premier League legislation.

However, the news coming out of the club today suggests that the player is interested in making a move.

"Pep Guardiola is one of the most respected managers in the world and I feel he can help me take my game to a new level".

Clement, who admitted on Wednesday that Spanish striker Fernando Llorente may not be fit for the start of the campaign due to a broken arm, said he hoped Sigurdsson would stay.
