Production on Season 8 of AMC's "The Walking Dead" has been halted temporarily in the wake of a stuntman suffering life-threatening injuries in an on-set fall, SAG-AFTRA, which represents stunt professionals, said in a statement.

On Wednesday, July the 12th, Bernecker fell off a 25-foot-high balcony while rehearsing a fight scene with an actor at the Raleigh Studio in Georgia.

The death was deemed an accident caused by blunt force trauma to the head, according to Coweta County Coroner Hank Richard.

AMC said in a statement circulated among United States media outlets that it was temporarily shutting down production of the hit show, which is filmed in Georgia.

Hollywood stuntman John Bernecker has died from injuries suffered after falling from a balcony this week on the set of "The Walking Dead", AMC's widely-acclaimed zombie series.

"John Bernecker's family has decided that he will be removed from life support following organ donation".

The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident as well.

"This tragic and untimely loss of a member of the SAG-AFTRA family is heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with his loved ones and his friends and colleagues in the Georgia production community", it said. It will also feature the TV series' 100 episode that will be helmed by executive producer Greg Nicotero who consistently directed all the season premiere since season 4. "We are deeply saddened by this loss and our hearts and prayers are with John's family, friends and colleagues during this extremely hard time".

Bernecker, 33, worked also worked as a stuntman on films including "Black Panther", "The Fate of the Furious", "Keanu", and "Logan".
