Top US Senate Republican to unveil revised healthcare plan

"I think our voters are going to be very upset".

"The health care bill is a Republican effort to make good on a promise they have been making for a number of years", he said.

The BCRA has two provisions that appear to benefit Alaska and encourage moderate Sen. But with the Republican leadership ready to offer extra funds for states like OH and West Virginia that may need it for low-income residents and the opioid crisis, others are concerned that the so-called moderate senators who are considered possible holdouts, will find enough positives in the bill to vote for it. "And this could be a really big problem." says CNN's Tami Luhby in an analysis called "How the Republican bill would change Obamacare".

"This is our moment, we were tasked to do and we need to get it done and find compromise within our party to help the American people who are suffering with the failure of ObamaCare", Romney McDaniel said. Rand Paul, R-Ky., have even said they will vote against the motion to proceed on the legislation. Obamacare covers some 20 million Americans.

It still includes plans to slash by more than $700 billion the Medicaid federal health care program for the poor and disabled, a move that Republican centrists fear could devastate millions of families. The U.S. House of Representatives passed its own version of the legislation in May.

Prior to the changes, the Congressional Budget Office estimated the initial Senate Republican plan would cut Medicaid spending by $772 billion over 10 years.

Also still in the bill are provisions to require older Americans buying individual insurance with a tax credit to pay a much-higher percentage of their income on premiums while also reducing the maximum income level for people to be eligible for a tax credit to buy individual insurance. They deserve better care. Susan Collins of ME and Rand Paul of Kentucky are definite "no" votes on the revised GOP bill, but several other Republicans are undecided.

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina: "It's a painful process right now".

"A lot of conservatives, Heritage Action included, desperately wanted to hold the line to make sure the Medicaid portion wasn't watered down in the Senate", said Dan Holler, vice president of Heritage Action for America, a conservative advocacy group.

The legislation also retains plans to: defund Planned Parenthood, roll back the Medicaid expansion, and allow states to apply for waivers to opt out of Obamacare regulations. It's "tough", he said this week, even tougher than brokering Middle East peace (one of many jobs assigned to his polymath son-in-law, Jared Kushner).

"Once the Senate completes its work on healthcare reform, we will turn to other important issues including the National Defense Authorization Act and the backlog of critical nominations that have been mindlessly stalled by Democrats", McConnell said in the statement.
