Trump's Approval Rating Hits A Historic Low Point

Donald Trump made history on Sunday when a new poll put his approval rating at an all-time low for a United States president during their first six months in office.

The president's overall approval rating has slipped to 36 percent from 42 percent in April.

Trump didn't seem that concerned about the poll results on Sunday, taking to Twitter to question the credibility of the survey while also noting that "almost 40% is not bad at this time".

The poor approval ratings are due in large part to the ongoing Russian Federation investigation as well as perceptions of Trump's ability to lead America on the world stage and the unpopularity of the proposed Republican health care bill.

And 48 per cent said they saw American global leadership weakening since Trump entered the White House, while 27 per cent said it is stronger. Almost four in 10 Republicans, 38 percent, say his conduct has been unpresidential rather than "fitting and proper" for a president.

However, there was a big positive for Trump in the poll - 43% of the respondents marked him positively on the performance of the economy on his watch, to 41% negatives.

Nearly 70 percent of those who thought Russian Federation interfered, say they think Trump's aides attempted to collude with Russian Federation.

Seventeen percent said they prefer neither.

In direct contrast to the plan on the table, the poll found that 63 percent say it is more important for the federal government to provide coverage for low income Americans than it is to cut taxes.

The previous low was 39 percent by President Gerald Ford after he pardoned Richard Nixon, who resigned the presidency rather than face impeachment due to the Watergate scandal.

A total of 48 percent of respondents said they "disapprove strongly" of the president's performance in office-a low threshold never reached by ex-presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, both Democrats, and only reached once by George W. Bush, during his second term.

The president dismissed his dismal approval rating in a tweet. And a majority-52-37 percent-think Trump is trying to interfere with investigations of alleged Russian influence. The President himself claims he needs a way to "get the honest and unfiltered message out", and insists his social media use is not presidential, but "MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL". That means the projection for Clinton was within the poll's margin of error of 2.5 percentage points, while the prediction for Trump was about a percentage point outside that margin of error.
