US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson ends Qatar rift talks

Saudi-led bloc says Qatar violated secret deal

Saudi-led bloc says Qatar violated secret deal

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt said the deal brokered by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday was "not enough".

The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt issued a joint statement hailing the efforts of USA in fighting terrorism. It has denied any wrongdoing.

The four nations have given no indication they would be willing to back off from their stance.

The four Arab countries said Qatar's government "cannot be trusted", citing previous agreements, and accused the emirate of supporting terrorist groups across the region.

Tillerson's unexpected return to Doha comes after Wednesday's talks with Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman failed to end a blockade on Qatar, which has been in place since June.

The Arab countries' foreign ministers, who met in Cairo on July 5, are scheduled to meet in Bahrain soon.

Qatar was presented with a list of demands two weeks ago that included shutting down the Al Jazeera news network, closing a Turkish military base, cutting ties with the Muslim Brotherhood and downgrading relations with Iran.

Qatar has rejected the demands, saying that agreeing to them wholesale would undermine its sovereignty.

The head of Qatar's government communication office, Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed Al Thani, has accused the quartet of organizing "a smear campaign in the global media to damage Qatar's reputation" and said they are "not interested in engaging in honest negotiations to resolve our differences".

The statement by the four states said sanctions against Qatar would continue until Doha "commits to comprehensively implement the just demands, including confronting terrorism and establishing stability and security in the region".

"But that such a step is not sufficient and we will closely monitor the seriousness of Qatar in combating all forms of funding, supporting and fostering terrorism", the statement said.

Qatar supports peace and justice and spends millions on compacting terrorism as well as supporting, educating and employ adults in developing countries as it offered more than 500 jobs to help adults.

Tillerson has visited Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia before returning to Doha on Thursday during a four-day trip to tackle the impasse. Tillerson has held talks with the king of Saudi Arabia and ot.
