11-year-old girl severely burned in sick 'hot water challenge' prank

An 11-year-old girl was severely burned Monday when a classmate poured scalding hot water on her at a sleepover.

The 11-year-old has second-degree burns on her face, neck, shoulders and chest, police said.

Police said Jamoneisha was intentionally scald at a sleepover while surrounded by young girls she considered her friends.

The victim was taken to Harlem Hospital following the ordeal, where she is reportedly in serious but stable condition.

In other variations, people willingly try to drink boiling water, police sources said.

Jamoneisha's mom, Ebony Merritt, said that the little girl is in a lot of physical and emotional pain, and she is now not being allowed to look at her injuries.

'She said she was screaming that it was burning, ' her cousin Yolanda Richardson said. "She thought they was her friends", Ebony Merritt told NY1.

Merritt's mom, Ebony, told NY1 that her daughter is in excruciating pain and said doctors are not allowing the child to even look at her burns.

"They ain't letting her see her face".

Eugene Dalmida, 52, said: "I think the only reason why she in good spirits is because she don't actually see the damage done to her. And they just been bullying her", she continued. 'I don't like her. The girl admitted it. It's been going on several times. Police have arrested and charged a 12-year-old girl in connection with the incident.

That game, according to the NY Post, can either involve pouring boiling water on unsuspecting targets or drinking boiling water, then uploading the footage to social media.

A boy in North Carolina also received severe burns last month after attempting the "hot water challenge".
