Mysterious Middle Finger Injury Lands Vince Velasquez on Disabled List

NY entered Thursday averaging 2.4 runs in the losses while going 3-10 over its previous 13 contests, but the Mets belted four home runs and matched their offensive output from the last five games combined in a 10-0 rout in the opener.

Vince Velasquez exited Thursday's start after one inning with numbness in his right middle finger, per the Phillies. Velasquez had a notable dip in velocity earlier in the season and was found to have a flexor strain that kept him out almost two months. His solo shot off of Hector Neris broke a 6-6 tie in the ninth inning.

Conforto stayed hot and blew the game open in the seventh with an opposite-field, three-run homer off the foul pole in left.

Smith is a touted 22-year-old first baseman who has 16 homers and a.905 on-base-plus-slugging percentage with Triple-A Las Vegas this season.

Conforto hit his second home run in as many days and his fourth homer and his sixth RBI in his last six games.

Curtis Granderson went 0-for-5 Friday night and left four runners stranded.

Freddy Galvis went 2-5 with a double.

The Phillies held a pregame moment of silence for former star catcher Darren Daulton.

In the midst of one of their worst offensive stretches of the season, the New York Mets had no problem finding their groove against a team they have dominated over the better part of the last three seasons.

"He's still very aggressive", Mets manager Terry Collins said.

This was the first time the Phillies played at home since Daulton died over the week of brain cancer. Altherr (strained right hamstring) went on the DL on Saturday.

Twins 9, Tigers 4 • Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario homered and drove in three runs each as Minnesota won in Detroit. Lugo has allowed multiple home runs in three straight starts.

Yankees 5, Red Sox 4 • Aaron Hicks hit a two-run homer that sparked a five-run eighth inning as NY beat visiting Boston.
