Here's What the Solar Eclipse Looked Like From Space

News 11 searched all over the Imperial Valley and shows us where you can score a pair of eclipse glasses and how you can view the eclipse if you don't.

As we draw nearer to the total solar eclipse that will darken the skies of Nashville on Monday, the excitement is growing.

You can create a DIY eclipse "pinhole" viewer at home, with supplies you probably already have.

On Monday, it goes from OR to SC. Pennington said it's up to each venue whether they want to hold onto some of the glasses for each day or let them run out before Monday.

You can also calculate your view with the app's interactive eclipse map and get a virtual view in the eclipse simulator.

In the Tri-State area, we're expected to see about 71 percent of the Sun obscured by the Moon.

It's the first total solar eclipse visible in the United States of America but no other country since the founding of our nation in 1776. Though the path of "totality" - a 70-mile wide band where the moon will completely block the sun - is about 928 miles away from Juneau, the entire US will see at least a partial eclipse.

While you may be more familiar with some of the other towns on this list, Madras, a small town in central OR, has been regarded by some to be the best place to view the eclipse.

One local preschool is keeping children inside during Monday's solar eclipse for just that reason.

If you can't find the glasses, you can make them yourself. Eclipse viewers will need to consider a location with a clear view 20 degrees and higher above the horizon from 10 to 41 degrees south of due east along the horizon, she said.

Looking straight into the eclipse without protection can damage your eyes or even blind you. It is also important that you make sure your glasses are not scratched as that can cause harmful light to affect your eyes.

During which, the strong photosphere will be more prominent, as well as twisting solar prominences as gas is ignited above the Sun and the halo of the ignited plasma corona can be seen.

I won't lie. When I was a kid and I first heard how a solar eclipse could burn your eyes out, I pretty much never wanted to see one.
