Woman Troopers Killed After White Supremacist Rally

The governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, has said that his only message for the white supremacists who brought chaos to the city of Charlottesville is "Go home".

Protesters gathered on Saturday night and made their way peacefully downtown, chanting and waving signs and banners. During the chaos, one person was killed and 35 others injured when a auto rammed into a crowd of counter-protesters.

Earlier in the day, Charlottesville police said James Alex Fields Jr., 20, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses over the ramming attack perpetrated amid the violence, Sputnik reported. "I urge all people of good will-go home".

"Make no mistake: The white supremacists in #Charlottesville feel emboldened by the Trump Admin. You are not wanted in this great commonwealth".

Two Virginia State Police pilots were also killed when the helicopter they were in, which had been assisting law enforcement in the rally, crashed just before 5 p.m., state police said.

Trump blamed "hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides" but did not single out the white nationalists - leading to the WGA East's pointed criticism.

The violence started on Friday, before Saturday's "Unite the Right" rally.

U.S. President Donald Trump broke his silence Saturday afternoon amid violent confrontations between white nationalist groups and counterprotesters in Charlottesville, tweeting that there was "no place for this kind of violence in America".

"This represents a turning point for the people of this country", former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke spoke at the rally, "We are determined to take our country back".

It is not yet clear whether the crash was in any way linked to a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville that turned violent Saturday.

The vehicle incident comes some time after tempers flared between the demonstrators and the white supremacists, who were there to protest the city's planned removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. "You pretend that you are patriots but you are anything but a patriot", McAuliffe said adding that there was "no place" for the supporters of the far-right views in the United States.
