Borussia Dortmund blocking Barcelona move for Dembele

Dortmund's chief executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke, claimed last weekend that Dortmund would reject a touted bid of €100m from Barcelona.

Dembele has four years remaining on his contract with BVB, but is reportedly keen on moving to La Liga. A delegation from Barcelona travelled to Germany yesterday to continue negotiations.

The 20-year-old looks one of the most exciting young talents in world football at the moment, and has been identified as an ideal replacement for Neymar at Barcelona after his £199m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Former club Rennes have a sell-on clause on Dembele, which means that they will receive a percentage of any transfer fee received.

Barca were initially quoted €90 million for the 20-year-old when they enquired as to his availability earlier in the summer, but Dortmund are now holding out for closer to €150m with the Copa del Rey winners having just come into €222m in the aftermath of Neymar's departure.

And sources in Spain also suggest a fee has been agreed in principle with Liverpool which will see Coutinho leave Anfield in a package worth £108.8m.

Dembele netted 10 times and tallied a remarkable 21 assists last term in all competitions for the German giants.

There is arguably not a player in world football who could act as a like-for-like replacement for the Brazil worldwide, but Dembele has the potential to hit the same heights. Sign up to play now!
