Giroud's clever header in the 85th minute secured the points after Lacazette had taken just 94 seconds to make his mark with a header from Mohamed Elneny's curling cross, equalling the record for the fastest opening goal in a Premier League season.

The Gunners faithful were taken on a roller-coaster of emotions on the first day of the Premier League season - and that was before half-time! And yet Arsenal failed to break to level the scores - Welbeck sent the ball into the goal after a failed attempt to Lacazette grabbed a brace.

"He wanted to stay and that was one of the greatest days I've had in recent months".

When pressed again if there's still a chance Giroud could leave before the window closes, Wenger persisted with, "It is a determined no".

Two goals in the opening four minutes foreshadowed what would be a back-and-forth, frantic match, and every fan who watched was treated to something special.

But Arsenal's pressure in the final half hour turned the game back their way and Aaron Ramsey equalised with seven minutes remaining before Giroud headed the 85th minute victor. "You saw the desire to get on the end of the corner, terrific". He chose to stay put and showed that he has the class to once again enjoy a fruitful season in the Premier League with a potential World Cup place up for grabs. The Frenchman can certainly find the back of the net and his effort here led to an entertaining game, although the former Lyon man will be anxious by what he saw at the other end of the pitch.

The signing of Alexandre Lacazette and the presence of Danny Welbeck has seen Giroud lose his already shaky starting place on the team.
