The Echo Dot is a smaller version of the standard Echo that loses some of the audio performance but is also considerably cheaper, making it easier for folks to buy several units and stick them all over their home.

The move may help Google challenge Amazon's dominance in the growing smart device market. A cheaper Google Home may also be a good choice for users who want to try out a smart speaker without spending a lot of money.

The Echo Dot costs $50.

Pixel 2 And Pixel 2 XL On The Way?

Later this year, Google will launch a new Pixel-branded Chromebook and a smaller version of its Home smart speaker alongside its two new Pixel phones, according to Android Police.

It was rumored to have a 12.3-inch display, 32 or 128 GB of onboard storage, 8 or 16 GB of memory, and an optional Wacom stylus, which implied that its screen would have touch and drawing capabilities.

The Pixel laptop rumoured for Google's October event however has the Chromebook moniker, meaning it will likely be running on Chrome OS instead.

Android Police's source doesn't give any information or specs about the new laptop, but it's possible that it's a reworked version of the Project Bison laptop that was planned to release in Q3 2017, and was first documented in September 2016. Whether or not this new Chromebook Pixel is the Bison or not, though, it's expected to be a Chromebook rather than run Andromeda.

The Echo and Echo Dot duo have become a runaway success for Amazon since they were launched in the USA in late 2014 and the United Kingdom two years later.

All the products mentioned above will be unveiled during the aforementioned fall event, according to reports. Google, on the other hand, is following the lead and coming up with its own competing products.
