Meanwhile, he assured that the issue will be probed and the results will be out in the next 24 hours, based on which action will be taken accordingly.

SP leader Juhi Singh hit out at UP Government and said, "Despite knowing that each year, several adults and children die because of Japanese encephalitis virus, the government should have made the preparations in full swing".

"The current government is responsible for the deaths of children in Gorakhpur due to the lack of oxygen". The Chief Minister Yogi had visited the hospital, on August 9.

"You (media) should not resort to fake reporting.you (media) should visit the wards and report from there and not from outside.go and see for yourself in the ward whether the patients are being treated or there is a carnage, " he said.

India spends about 1% of GDP on public health, among the lowest in the world, and successive governments have faced criticism for not reforming the health system. What has happened is saddening.

Surprisingly, state Health Minister Siddharthnath Singh has said that no deaths occurred to to oxygen shortage.

Around 400 children suffering from encephalitis were battling for their lives in the hospital.

On Saturday, it was reported that as many as 30 children lost their lives due to encephalitis in a span of 48 hours at the hospital.

District magistrate Rajeev Rautela said in press conference, "We have been told that BRD witnessed disturbance in liquid oxygen supply since last night as firm withdrew supply owing to non-payment", he said. He said a probe, led by the chief secretary, had also been ordered.

Despite calling the disruption of oxygen as a major lapse, the UP government maintained that none of the deaths were caused due to shortage of oxygen.

Congress Vice President also tweeted about children dying in the hospitals on Friday, August 11. "Assure you, if anyone's negligence caused the death of a person, in any part of UP, he won't be spared", Adityanath added.

The principal, however, later said that he resigned even as he owned up to the responsibility of the whole episode.

A hospital in India has been accused of failing to provide enough oxygen after 60 children died on its wards in five days.

The procurred data also shows the number of oxygen cylinders sent for refilling each day, showing a clear shortage of liquid oxygen in the hospital.
