Hackers have posted stolen HBO files online including some related to the show Game of Thrones

One document appears to contain the confidential cast list for Game of Thrones, listing personal telephone numbers and email addresses for actors such as Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Emilia Clark.

The hackers, who illegally broke into HBO's computer networks, claim to have taken 1.5 terabytes of data, including the fourth episode of season seven, which aired in the US on Sunday (06Aug17), and was released illegally on Friday (04Aug17), days after a script from the newest instalment of the fantasy series was published on the Internet.

It claims HBO is the hackers' 17th target and that only three of their past targets refused to pay.

"HBO spends $12m for market research and $5m for [Game of Thrones series seven] advertisements". To stop the leaks, the purported hackers demanded "our 6 month salary in bitcoin", which they implied is at least $6 million. "So consider us another budget for your advertisements".

Those behind the HBO hack claim to have more data, including scripts, upcoming episodes of HBO shows and movies, and information damaging to HBO.

HBO has provided few details about the hack.

HBO has also issued a statement in the matter, which read, "HBO believed that further leaks might emerge from this cyber incident when we confirmed it last week".

The materials, which mark the first evidence that some HBO private emails are in the hands of hackers, came in an email message to The Hollywood Reporter that also contained nine files with such labels as "Confidential" and "Script GOT7". "Money isn't our main goal", their ransom note reads. "We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner's end to swiftly determine the cause". As we said, the forensic review is ongoing.
