House must stop pre-emptive nuclear strike on N. Korea: lawmaker

"North Korea is a serious thing", he began. "It's tailor-made for somebody to misuse". "I'd say [Trump's] being incredibly irresponsible and he's putting us in a situation where you could have an accidental launch".

Kim Jong Un thinks "the nuclear weapons will prevent usa from getting involved", Sun said. "What we need is someone bringing calm to the situation, not spiking it".

Thursday on "CNN Tonight", network host Fareed Zakaria said President Donald Trump's "fire and fury" rhetoric on North Korea was the "the art of the bluff".

"You have this guy making bellicose threats against somebody else who has very little to lose over there", said Ellison, D-Minn. A further 12% see Kim Jong-un's country as unfriendly while 4% see it as friendly and 1% see it as an ally.

Since the Clinton administration in the early 1990s, the USA has reacted to Pyongyang's "nuclear blackmail" with negotiated agreements that lead to aid and an easing of sanctions followed invariably by broken promises, a growing nuclear arsenal and more threats.

The United Nations Security Council, with encouragement from the US, voted unanimously at the beginning of August to impose new sanctions against North Korea in retaliation for the regime's recent intercontinental ballistic missile tests.

The U.S. House of Representatives should return from its summer recess to discuss legislation banning a pre-emptive nuclear strike on North Korea without congressional authorization, a Democratic lawmaker said Friday.

"In light of the ongoing standoff between the United States and North Korea, as well as President Trump's reckless words, I ask that you immediately call the House of Representatives back into session to debate legislation prohibiting the US from conducting a pre-emptive nuclear strike without prior Congressional authorization", he said.
