A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking disqualification of Foreign Affairs Khawaja Asif on similar grounds as the Supreme Court on July 28 disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

A senior leader of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said on Thursday indicated that the party may field Kulsoom or Shariff's daughter Maryam to fill the vacant seat. Mr Khan himself is facing a court case alleging undeclared assets.

He said after winning the election on September 17 Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will leave the top post for Begum Kulsoom.

The roadshow via the iconic Grand Trunk Road, which links a large part of South Asia from Bangladesh to Afghanistan, came despite security threats and drew thousands of Sharif supporters on their way to the provincial capital of Punjab.

PTI stands with the judiciary, he announced while stressing that the people have showed in dwindling numbers in PML-N rally as they rejected Nawaz Sharif's victim card.

Mrs Sharif, who has never run for office, will be canvassing for votes in her husband's political stronghold inside Lahore's Walled City, where he has never lost.

"Kalsoom Nawaz is going to the parliament", son-in-law Muhammad Safdar Awan, who is also a National Assembly lawmaker, said after submitting her nomination papers at the election commission office in Lahore. She led the protests in Lahore when the then army chief Gen Pervez Musharraf removed Mr Sharif in a military coup in 2000.
