Jose Mourinho Ready For Second-Year Success

Manchester United kick off the new Premier League season when they entertain West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Mourinho's mission is clear - to add to his three trophies captured in an impressive debut season at Old Trafford. And while he made no secret of his desire to see one more player come in, the 54-year-old is adamant it will not make or break United's season.

"There are not many, there are just a couple. I think the competition can be better than ever".

'I thought about Matic but I never like to go to players where I think it's an impossible mission (to sign them). And I felt that there was no chance this could happen.

'When I got a call that Matic wants to play for me, I thought he was the flawless player for me. "I just think he was very clear showing what he did past year was not enough for him".

"He doesn't need time to adapt".

"We also have people coming later - Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, maybe Zlatan".

In goal, David de Gea remains a steadfast presence and the Spaniard is one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

Cast your minds back to this time previous year when West Ham United were dealing with Europa League qualifying football as well as an exhaustive trip to the United States of America for pre-season. He gives me something I really like which is consistency. After a first season of transition, Mourinho must stamp his authority on this team and is under a lot of pressure to deliver the coveted Premier League title.

But beneath the unsmiling eyes shone an optimism about the season which was hard to hide from the questioning media.

JOSE MOURINHO, Manchester United manager, expressing his satisfaction with his new recruits.

"We are much better organised at every level". The medical department is better, the logistics, how we organise training routines, the analysis department.

"We are in a position to do quality work better than we did in the first season, so I am convinced that our second season, in terms of the quality of our team, is going to be better". We are going to try to win the title.

Chelsea legend and new BT Sport pundit Frank Lampard has bet against Arsenal and Liverpool to reach the Champions League places this season, according to the Daily Star. "I think it is the objective of every one of the top teams and every one of the top team managers", Mourinho said. It's the only thing which I demand of myself.

"I don't put any extra pressure on myself because I always give everything, then normally the results are a good effect of that work".

"My dedication to my job is always the maximum even more than when I started".

Now, incumbent Antonio Conte has equaled Mourinho's first season feat at Chelsea by winning the Premier League at the first attempt.
