Liverpool Release Coutinho Statement Amid Barca Links

Liverpool insisted on Friday that Philippe Coutinho would not be sold at any price amid reports Spanish giants Barcelona had increased their bid for the Brazil playmaker to £90 million (RM501.7 million).

That news emerged only hours after Liverpool's owners had issued a statement stressing their stance that the 25-year-old would not be sold during the current transfer window.

Liverpool players will have a hard time this season as they strive to secure positions due to an influx of good players in the squad during the summer transfer window.

In a statement on Friday, the club's owners said its "definitive stance" was that "no offers will be considered".

Philippe Coutinho has rocked Liverpool by handing in a transfer request on the eve of the new season.

Coutinho will be out of action this weekend when Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign against Watford due to a back injury.

Barcelona have identified the Brazilian as their top target and they have plenty of cash following the world record €222 million deal that saw Neymar depart for PSG.

Now Klopp has backed up those sentiments, as he confirmed Liverpool's desire to hang on to the player in his pre-match press conference for his side's Premier League opener against Watford on Saturday. 'That is set in stone.

"If they lose Philippe Coutinho, they'll get an enormous figure for him, but at this point of the window, they'll probably end up spending a lot of money on someone they are not sure about to replace him", Souness told Sky Sports. No price at which we are ready to give in.

"They already had an incredible team last season and then Jesus joined them and I thought, "Oh my goodness"".

Dortmund issued a statement to the German stock exchange this week in which they confirmed that a bid from Barca, which is said to be close to €100m, had been rejected.

Gray's signing could have cast further doubt over Deeney's future but, asked if he would stay, Silva said: "Of course, he's our player and our captain and he's one player we hope to keep".
