Police have arrested a man suspected of being the jogger who nearly killed a woman on Putney Bridge.

Police now say the woman saw the jogger running back across the bridge about 15 minutes later and tried in vain to speak to him.

The 33-year-old victim was walking across Putney Bridge heading towards the Tube station when the jogger knocked her over, into the path of the oncoming bus which narrowly missed hitting her.

"Officers previously issued CCTV of the incident and received a good response from the appeal".

London's Metropolitan Police force released surveillance camera footage Wednesday of the May 5 incident on Putney Bridge.

Despite falling head-first into the busy road, she was thankfully only left with minor injuries.

Police said that the footage had been released as the investigation into identity of the runner, described as a white man in his 30s, had so far been unsuccessful.

"We are keen to speak to the jogger in the CCTV about what happened that morning". We would urge him or anyone who recognises him to get in touch with us as soon as possible'.

A source from Go Ahead London, which owns the bus, said that it was only because the driver was going at 12mph that the woman was not seriously injured.

"The victim was put in extreme danger when she was knocked into the road", said Sergeant Mat Knowles, the investigating officer from Putney Safter Safer Neighbourhood Team. He was wearing a light gray T-shirt and dark blue shorts at the time.

While the driver's colleagues have called for him to be awarded for his quick reactions.
