Manchester United re-open talks to sign Ivan Perisic, would cost £48m

Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho has admitted defeat in his pursuit for Ivan Perisic

The decision will be a big blow to United who were desperate to fulfil Jose Mourinho's final transfer request.

Jose Mourinho admits he still has a soft spot for Inter Milan and understands why the Serie A side would not sell Ivan Perisic.

It's believed that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is back in touch with Perisic's agent Fali Ramadani over a possible deal, with a growing sense that United are close to meeting Inter Milan's £48million asking price.

That is according to Spanish sports journalist Alfredo Pedulla anyway, who took to his Twitter account to make the claim that Barca would duke it out with United for the 28-year-old forward if deals for Coutinho and Dembele fell through.

Mourinho is hoping to bring in one or two more players before the window shuts, having admitted on Friday that he had landed 75 per cent of his transfer targets, namely Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Vidic and Victor Lindelof.

And Inter are said to have offered Perisic a new contract since, hoping to end United's pursuit of the Croatia global.

The Croatian worldwide, who impressed for his country at Euro 2016, offers the potent attacking play and defensive work rate that Mourinho is looking for, meaning he could be the ideal left winger in this United side.

The same report states that Manchester United hold an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose, although a move for him is more likely to come next summer.

United have been unable to push through Perisic's signing despite being linked with him all summer.
