30 Feared Dead As Landslide Sweeps Away 2 Buses In Himachal Pradesh

Over 50 people are feared dead as a massive landslide washed away two buses in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday. Meanwhile, the army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel with other rescue teams are searching the area for bodies buried under the debris. Five people have been rescued, an official said.

Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated: "Pained by the loss of lives due to landslide related accidents in HP's Mandi district".

The landslide happened at Kotrupi, 220 kilometres from Shimla.

According to an official, the landslide occurred around midnight on the Mandi-Pathankot national highway burying two Himachal Road Transport Corporation buses. Two buses, one vehicle and a bike were damaged in the landslide.

One of the buses was on its way to Chamba from Manali, while the other one was on its way to Katra in Jammu from Manali.

At least 44 passengers died after a bus carrying them turned turtle and fell into River Tons in Himachal Pradesh's Gumma on Wednesday.

"The rain has hampered the rescue operation which is making it tough for the police and home guard", said Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Sandeep Kadam. "The relief announcement will be done by the Government as per the schedule", Singh told ANI.
