Deadly blast strikes Pakistan's Quetta

A bomb exploded near a crowded market in the Pakistani city of Quetta on Saturday, killing at least 15 people, officials said, the latest attack to hit the restive southwestern province of Baluchistan, APA reports quoting Reuters.

Home Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti said that number of casualties was feared to rise as it was a "huge blast", which caused fire in the area.

All the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment and rescue operations are underway.

"We can now confirm that 15 people have died in the explosion today". As a result nearby vehicles caught fire. The nature of the blast could not immediately be determined but an investigation was underway, he said.

"We will continue to work to eliminate the menace of terrorism from our country", he said in a statement releases by his office.

Sanaullah Zehri, Chief Minister (CM) of Balochistan, who accompanied ousted premier Nawaz Sharif at Data Darbar rally in Lahore at the time of the untoward incident said that all hospitals in the area were operating in state of emergency to counter the tensed situation.

Daesh, a Takfiri terrorist group which mainly operates in the Middle East but has also established a branch in Afghanistan, has claimed several attacks in the Pakistani territory in the recent past.

ISPR Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor said in a Twitter post that Chief of the Army Staff has condemned the attack and termed it an attempt to mar the Independence Day Celebrations. However, military intelligence officials denied the Wadh network exists and the father of the alleged leader says his son is not involved with militants attacking the state. Attacks have also been reported by groups related to the Taliban.
