Class VII Student Tries to Jump Off Building In Indore, Cops Suspect He Was Trying To Complete 'Blue Whale Challenge'

The commotion was heard by the school's physical education teacher Farooq Sheikh who rushed to save the boy, reported the Hindustan Times.

Just to jog your memory, the infamous online game has been reportedly responsible for hundreds of teenage suicides around the world including 14-year-old from Mumbai.

The incident took place at Chameli Devi school of the city here on Thursday morning when a student of Class VII while following instructions given to him in the online Blue Whale game attempted to jump off the third floor of his school building in his bid to complete the final task of the game.

Soon after the incident, the school informed the parents of the boy and the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rupesh Kumar Dwivedi said that according to preliminary investigation, the teen had been "playing" the Blue Whale challenge on his father's phone for days, without his parents' knowledge.

Originating in Russian Federation, the Blue Whale game has claimed almost 130 lives worldwide, the majority of the victims being teenagers. "We believe he was thinking about committing suicide to accomplish the final 50th task of the game". It requires a person to watch horror movies alone, carve a whale figure on the body, waking up at odd hours and finally commit suicide. Yesterday, a 14-year-old boy from Solapur was rescued by police from Pune when he went missing from his house to complete a task in the challenge. Now, another teen was allegedly "playing" the challenge and nearly committed suicide, was it not for his PT instructor.

Once you sign up for the game, which originated in Russian Federation, it will assign you daily tasks to complete for 50 days. Gamers are asked to complete and upload videos of a series of dares over 50 days, which includes carving a blue whale into one's arm. "Victims were "happy to die" and I am "cleansing society", Budeikin told police when he was arrested in May this year.
