National Hockey League team condemns white supremacists using its logo

Here's why NHL's Detroit Red Wings forced to release a statement denouncing white nationalist group in Virginia

Here's why NHL's Detroit Red Wings forced to release a statement denouncing white nationalist group in Virginia

At least one group was seen carrying placards with the Red Wings logo, drawing the response from the National Hockey League team.

Alt-right white supremacists were spotted Saturday at the Charlottesville, Va., rally carrying objects with the Red Wings logo on them.

It appears the team will pursue legal options against the group. That thing inside the wheel is an SS pattern.

Several of the right-wing sign holders have held up signs that feature the Detroit Red Wings' logo, which led to the team's statement.

The team issued a statement on Saturday, condemning the demonstration, and threatening possible legal action for the use of their logo.

The Detroit Right Wings had been using the altered Red Wings logo on its Twitter account, which was taken down Saturday afternoon.

Among the protesters were a group that refers to themselves as the "Detroit Right Wings", the hockey website Russian Machine Never Breaks reported. The GoFundMe raising resulted in only $328 from four total donations. Clashes between white nationalists and counter-protesters earlier in the day injured eight and prompted Charlottesville police and Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe to declare a state of emergency. One person died and 19 were hurt when a vehicle was driven intentionally into a throng of anti-racism demonstrators.
