Pakistan cricketer Zubair Ahmed dies after being struck on head by bouncer; PCB mourns loss

Young cricketer Zubair died in Mardan after cricket ball hit him on the head during a match.

The tragic incident happened on Pakistan's Independence Day - August 14. He passed away at a hospital in Sydney two days later.

Tragedy struck Pakistan cricket on Monday when a first-class cricketer, Zubair Ahmed, died after being hit on the head by a bouncer.

The blossoming career of Zubair, batting without a helmet, was cut short when he failed to read a bouncer.The batman impressed during the four matches he played in List "A" domestic competition.

The Pakistan Cricket Board expressed grief on its Twitter account and stressed the need for a helmet at all times.

Death of the young cricketer belonging to Fakhar Zaman Academy was also followed with a condolence message from commentator and former worldwide cricketer of Australia Dean Jones via twitter. "Condolences to his family", Jones said.

Earlier, Australia vice-captain David Warner caused a major scare in the national camp after being hit by bouncer on the neck during intra-squad practice match in Darwin.

A focus on player safety has been heightened since the tragic death of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes in 2014. However, he is recovering and is expected to be fit for Australia's tour of Bangladesh.
