Pakistan's ousted Sharif vows to remain active in politics

According to Malik Mohammad Ahmed, a spokesman in Punjab where Lahore is the provincial capital, Sharif planned to travel with a convoy of supporters by road on Wednesday from the capital, Islamabad, to Lahore.

Ex-premier Nawaz Sharif has ignored security threats in choosing to take the Grand Trunk Road instead of the Motorway for his Lahore "homecoming" in what must have been a tough decision. "I have a lot to say about what has led to my ouster".

Sharif's party initially wanted Abbasi to serve as an interim premier for 45 days until Sharif's younger brother, Shahbaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab, secures a national assembly seat in a by-election.

The former prime minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, is going to call on the people of Pakistan to decide for themselves whether he is guilty of the crimes he has been charged with.

Speaking to enthusiastic supporters at the rally after nightfall, Sharif said "this mammoth crowd in Rawalpindi is in fact the start of a revolution".

"Nawaz Sharif had advised me to take rest", claimed Nisar and left the parliament house at around 2 PM.

"We will walk to Lahore if we have to", said Nazeer Hussain, 60, a PML-N party worker who was wearing a shirt imprinted with Sharif's face and a hat bearing his election symbol of a tiger.

A five-member Supreme Court bench last month disqualified Sharif for dishonesty and ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the Panama Papers scandal, forcing the prime minister to quit for the record third time.

Sharif was seen off in Islamabad by Abbasi, the new cabinet and other party officials, Sharif's political adviser Asif Kirmani said.

He said first he was ousted by a President, then by a dictator and now by the Supreme Court.

The court termed the salary which was not paid to Sharif as an "asset".

Sharif's removal plunged Pakistan into political turmoil but PML-N loyalists elected Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as the new prime minister. Sharif addressed a huge rally in downtown Rawalpindi, after starting his journey from Islamabad to Lahore to project his political strength. "How many metros has Mrs Nawaz Sharif built?"

Pakistan's next parliamentary election is due in mid-2018, and Hussain said he would be voting for the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
