Piers Morgan Accuses Walmart of Selling Guns to Kids After Viral Photo

Walmart sorry for 'horrible' gun display

Whether as an intentionally bad move or a careless oversight, some brilliant Walmart employee chose to put a sign above a store's rifle display that read, "Own The School Year Like A Hero" - which is admittedly not a good look for the major retailer.

Walmart, the largest seller of guns and ammunition in the USA, said it was looking into whether the sign was placed there by mistake, or if it was done by a customer as prank.

Walmart spokesman Charles Crowson says the photo is consistent with the interior of its stores but that the company hasn't determined which one, or even if the image is real.

A Walmart gun display prodding customers to "Own the school year like a hero", was a prank, the company confirmed Saturday.

'We regret this situation and are looking into how it could have happened, ' the spokesperson added.

May said that she made her concerns known to store employees but was unable to find a manager.

Walmart is the largest retailer for guns and ammunition in the United States. HOW tone deaf can a corp be?,' one Twitter user asked incredulously.

'We hear you, ' the official Walmart Twitter account wrote in response.

Walmart did not immediately respond to Daily Dot questions about the sign and in which store it was placed. Thanks again for alerting us to this'.

That tweet, though, wasn't the first time Walmart heard about the signage situation.

After the post appeared this week, a number of people criticized the company on social media, expressing disgust. A photo showed boxes of stacked up to resemble the World Trade Center in what appeared to be an attempt to commemorate the September 11 attacks.
