Trump condemns 'violence' at white supremacist rally

A man is facing a murder charge after a vehicle ploughed into a crowd of people protesting against a white supremacist rally in Virginia, killing a 32-year-old woman and injuring more than a dozen others, on a day full of violent confrontations.

President Donald Trump reacted to the chaotic scene that unfolded Saturday at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., condemning violence and hatred "on many sides".

"There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis", she wrote. Let us heal. This is not our story. During last year's campaign, James also took issue with Trump's use of the term "locker room talk" to describe his controversial 2005 comments about women that appeared to endorse sexual assault.

One woman was killed when a sports auto rammed into a crowd of protestors at the Charlottesville Downtown mall.

The Virginia State Police confirmed the crash and fatalities on their Facebook page and said the two people killed were in the helicopter.

Addressing reporters, Trump refused to name white supremacists or any specific group, blaming the violence "on many sides". It has been going on for a long, long time. "Not Donald Trump. Not Barack Obama".

The Bell 407 helicopter went down 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Charlottesville, Jim Peters, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said in an email. But Trump walked away without giving an answer.

Police said Lt. H. Jay Cullen of Midlothian and Trooper-pilot Berke M.M. Bates of Quinton were killed in the crash, the Associated Press reports.

Activist groups called for protesters to congregate Saturday night in downtown Oakland in response to violence during a rally by white supremacists in Virginia that left one woman dead and many injured. "You will not replace us!" and "Jews will not replace us!"

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt also condemned the violence in a series of tweets. Total disaster, ' alt-right figure Richard Spencer said on Twitter.

He praised Trump for condemning the violence but criticized him for not specifically condemning the white supremacist movement.

The Saturday rally was organized by a far right group to protest a plan to remove a statue of General Robert E. Lee and call for the protection of Southern Confederate monuments. Counter-protesters massed in opposition.
