To stop BJP's 2019 march, Opposition parties to meet in Delhi today

The Congress did not say anything on this issue publicly but its leaders let it be known in private conversations that the NCP had voted for the BJP and that it was the Janata Dal (U) candidate who had cast the deciding vote. This is a historic moment for Bihar when the same alliance is at the helm of affairs in the state and at the Centre.

At the meeting, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee proposed a few joint programmes during the three months before the winter session of Parliament begins in November.

Sources said five major issues were identified for attacking the NDA government.

While senior NCP leader Praful Patel publicly declared that their party was boycotting the meeting, the Congress put up a courageous face, stating that Pawar had called to say that he would have personally participated in the meeting but was unable to do so as he was unwell. "I invited JD (U) to join the NDA", Shah said in a tweet. Azad said the parties were told to take independent decisions on joining the rally.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, party leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge, party General Secretary and state in-charge K.C. Venugopal, state unit President G Parameshwara and other party leaders were present on the occasion. "We should all work together with unity and have to fight this election", he said.

When asked if opposition parties are going to attend the rally called by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on 27 August in Patna, Azad said that there was a discussion on it and all the opposition leaders who are keen on attending it will be doing so. The Bihar Chief Minister also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A leader close to Nitish told News 18 that PM Modi wanted to "harness the potential of Nitish Kumar at the national level". "By calling us she wants to create a rift between party members".

Speaking to ANI, MP Vashistha Narayan Singh said, 'This was important and was done due to Sharad Yadav's anti-party activities'. The reason behind NCP not being a part of the Opposition meeting is reportedly the recent Gujarat Rajya Sabha polls. He is in Bihar on a three-day visit.

Earlier today, Sharad Yadav claimed that he had sent fellow party leader Ali Anwar Ansari to attend a meeting of opposition parties convened by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, so that Bihar-like grand alliance is replicated countrywide.

The Congress vice-president also said that the Congress is in support of all the families who lost their children in the Gorakhpur tragedy in Uttar Pradesh.
