The 34-year-old actor looks set to star alongside Tom Hardy in the hotly-anticipated Sony motion picture, a spin-off of the Spider-Man franchise.

Variety reported late Wednesday that Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Night Of) is in "early talks" to join the film.

The studio is riding high when it comes to Spidey following "Spider-Man: Homecoming" Sony's collaboration with Marvel Studios, which received a strong response and has grossed more than Dollars 675 million worldwide since opening last month.

Variety report the news of Ahmed's potential casting, but sources haven't revealed as to whom he will play. Unfortunately, none of those options give us an idea as to who the character they could have played will be if it's not actually Carnage.

Insiders claim that he will not be playing the villain Carnage, but will be tackling another popular figure from the Marvel Comics universe.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce the film from a script written by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner and Amy Pascal.

Hardy signed on for the role in May (17), but the character was first introduced on the big screen in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, where he was portrayed by Topher Grace.

The film is due out on October 5th, 2018.

What's more, he appeared in "Jason Bourne" opposite Matt Damon, and recently credited his role as an assistant to Jake Gyllenhaal's unscrupulous news videographer in 2014's "Nightcrawler" for showing the world what he is capable of. He was also part of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
