The Philippines trailed by eight points entering the locker room, but things got out of hand over the next 10 minutes of play.

South Korea upset Gilas Pilipinas 118-86 on Wednesday to eliminate the Philippines in the quarterfinals of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup in Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon.

And the Filipino fans who screamed their hearts out in personally witnessing Gilas' stirring wins over China, Iraq and Qatar were left silent as Korea resumed its dominance over the Philippines in the global basketball scene.

Behind Romeo, Christian Standhardinger and Jason Castro, the Filipinos put up some challenge only in the first half of play.

Gilas Pilipinas displayed the agility and dominance in the Group games by clinching 3-0 record.

Orchestrating South Korea's win that came shortly past 1 a.m. this morning Manila time was Hur Jae, one of its country's greatest players who had great success against the Philippines.

But the Koreans pressed on the gas pedal in the third-shooting at will from beyond the arc and attacking the hoops more aggressively-as their lead snowballed to 25 points, 87-62 at the end of the quarter. They were more precise in their shooting and more clinical in their execution.

South Korea will next face powerhouse Iran or the host Lebanon for a seat in the Finals. At the end of the first quarter, the Koreans were ahead by only 8 points, 26-18, despite the Philippines not hitting their outside shots and not playing their usual game. He also had four assists and one rebound and a steal.

Oh Se-keun and Kim Sun-hyung were South Korea's leading scorers, finishing with 16 points apiece.

In the other game played tonight, Iraq did not benefit from the sometimes hasty plays of Jordan that saw them commit 25 turnovers and eventually break down nearly completely in the 4th.

China produced an epic fightback to beat Syria and reach the quarter-finals of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Cup in Beirut today.
