Earlier this week, Trump said the U.S. would unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea if it continued to threaten the U.S. North Korea has announced a detailed plan to launch a salvo of ballistic missiles toward the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam, a major military hub and home to U.S. bombers. The Dow is up 34.62 points or 0.2% at 21,878.63, the Nasdaq is up 25.62 points or 0.4% at 6,242.49 and the S&P 500 is up 4.36 points or 0.2% at 2,442.57.

Wall Street rebounded on Friday and ended on a good note in a hard week marked by increasing geopolitical tensions: the Dow Jones has taken 0.1% and the Nasdaq up 0.6 per cent.

The U.S. dollar set an eight-week low against the yen after U.S. President Donald Trump further ratcheted up the rhetoric, suggesting that his "fire and fury" comments may not have been tough enough.

"We've had some competing forces play out over the past 12 hours - the USA dollar was stronger off economic data, but that was quickly reversed with President Trump's comments about North Korea earlier today (Wednesday)", said ANZ analyst Daniel Hynes.

"If the USA and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so", the editorial's authors said. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index and the broader All Ordinaries Index fell around 1.2 percent each to finish at 5,693.10 and 5,743.50, respectively. The stock lost $5.07 to $101.91.

The Nasdaq Composite was down 115.35 points, or 1.82 percent, at 6,236.98.
