Since this supposed delay hasn't been addressed Google, it's possible that it might not be be a big deal.

When Android O begins its official rollout, Pixel And Nexus devices will be the first in line to get the update.

We are all excited for the launch of Android O. Are you? According to Android Police's David Ruddock, Google has delayed the arrival of the consumer version of Android O to Pixel smartphones. Last year, Google officially unveiled Android 7.0 Nougat on August 22, so based on continuity alone, the August 21 date seems quite likely. Earlier rumors have revealed that this year Google will be releasing the Android O earlier this year. It is worth mentioning that this is one feature (though not the only one) which was available to those who were on the developer preview of Android O, more specifically the third preview, so it's not an entirely new feature in terms of this being the first time users are getting a hold of it. There was also no clue or hint regarding the correlation between the upcoming solar eclipse and the name of Android O. However, this update will require explicit developer approval before it gets pushed. On the other hand, the iPhone 8 is coming in September, so Google may be looking to steal some of Apple's thunder with a splashy Android O name unveiling event. Previously it was speculated that Android O could finally be called Android Oreo or Android Oatmeal Cookie, though it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to find out its official name.

The latest incarnation of the world's most popular smartphone operating system is expected to bring a raft of new features, although they aren't necessarily the attention grabbing features that we have become used to in past releases.
