Tottenham player ratings in 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Wembley

Thibaut Courtois says Chelsea's hard-fought win over Tottenham Hotspur proves that the champions do not have the same problems as 2015, and believes that last week's bad start was more a effect of freak absences and the need for "a little wake-up call" rather than anything deeper.

The 26-year-old Spaniard struck the victor with less than three minutes remaining in an impressive show of character by Chelsea, after they had been pinned back when substitute Michy Batshuayi headed into his own net eight minutes from time.

In a game that lacked moments of true quality - both sides looked like they have yet to find this season's groove - Chelsea started brightly, with new forward Alvaro Morata squandering an early chance when he snuck in between Toby Alderweireld and Keiran Trippier. Spurs, especially the last 15, 20 minutes of the first half, they had a lot of pressure on us.

Spurs went behind after a brilliant free-kick from Marcos Alonso sailed over the wall and nestled into Hugo Lloris' top corner to allow the Blues to lead at the half-time interval.

The hosts rallied as Kane drew Courtois into action at his near post before fizzing a low drive through Antonio Rudiger's legs but a yard wide, before Christian Eriksen's wicked free-kick managed to evade everyone in the penalty area.

Poch and the Spurs squad probably has a right to be frustrated.

Alongside him was Tiemoue Bakayoko, who was making a belated debut after signing from Monaco while carrying a knee injury, while Andreas Christensen made a first Premier League start in defence.

Spurs, though, did not take a backwards step and dominated the majority of the second half.

Spurs had appeals for a penalty denied on the hour by referee Anthony Taylor, who deemed Alli's cross to have struck Azpilicueta's chest.

'Don't forget that we played with four new players from last season.

Sunday's defeat means Tottenham have now lost seven of their last nine matches at Wembley and the loss to Chelsea was their first reverse in a Premier League fixture since May 2016.

On the other side of the pitch, Thibaut Courtois needed two tries to deny Harry Kane. The keeper should have done better - and it was enough to win the game and leave Pochettino reflecting on a disappointing start to his team's year long stay at the national stadium. The absolute star of the match was the Spanish worldwide Marcos Alonso who scored two fantastic goals for the Blues.
