Key Uber Investor Sues Travis Kalanick To Get Him Off The Board

Earlier this week another longtime Kalanick ally, co-founder Garrett Camp, sent a memo to employees saying that "Travis is not returning as CEO", according to a copy obtained by tech website Recode. Graves steps down from the executive team as the company is still searching for a chief executive, after former CEO Travis Kalanick stepped down.

Uber is unlikely to replace Graves, according to a person with knowledge of the matter, because many parts of the business under his purview, such as UberEats and UberRush, are managed by the company's head of Uber Everything, Jason Droege.

"Kalanick acquired a disproportionate level of influence over the Board, ensuring that he would continue to have an outsized role in Uber's strategic direction even if forced to resign as CEO", lawyers for Benchmark said in the complaint filed in Delaware Chancery Court. Benchmark is said to have spearheaded the investor push to remove Kalanick from the company after months of self-inflicted scandals thoroughly tarnished Uber's reputation. The firm refers to both sexual harassment at Uber and the lawsuit Uber faces over stealing self-driving technology from Google. He will remain a member of Uber's board. That would mean the last glimmer of hope TK loyalists have of Kalanick "pulling a Steve Jobs" and coming back to Uber would be gone. The VC firm pushed, ultimately successfully, for Kalanick's resignation in June.
